Met with @ LindaAnn who is still operating her guide service for retirees that hike, in the yellow pages under the catchy name, the keep up or get lost inc., after paying my fee I advised her slower hikes are always more enjoyable. We crossed the barely flowing Slate Creek , water clearer than expected, and began going up . If any other hikers had been around they may have thought two tomatoes were on the trail as they would have heard ketchup, ketchup repeatedly  I tried to look at the distant views instead of the close up charred areas, plus I could buy a couple of minutes by asking Linda what peak is that and what hikes are near it especially encouraging her to use her peak finder app, takes a minute to load. Shortly after reaching FR 626 a worker truck was descending and a little further on we started to see some snow. Someone tried to instigate a snowball fight and launch an investigation for Jaguar tracks in the snow, hey I’m just hanging on in survival mode now. Finally making the summit there was enough views and peaks to name to encourage a long break, even better was the good cell phone service so she could text her kids, financial advisors, friends ,car dealers etc., but I couldn’t convince Linda that breaks were more relaxing if you remove your hiking boots for awhile. Restlessness ensued and we started down , one of us spotted a Stellar Jay, they never pose, also saw 3 deer along the way. Commented to Linda we might get a @DixieFlyer spotting today also. Did have my old friend lumbago visit resulting in some sitting and stretching stops, first disguised as “I think you need more sun block on” , almost wish Linda would complain so I would feel less guilty about the slow downs . Anyway I felt better once the road flattened out a bit, made it to my vehicle first to claim the faster time today :D Enjoyable day with great weather and an awesome partner who fortunately for me didn’t write up an epic triplog sequel!
