The surrounding area was called Circle Cliffs and we backpacked into a slot canyon adequately named Little Death Hollow. Good name. It was difficult but so, so, so rewarding. We saw petroglyphs along the trail, the sights were unbelievable, and the slot canyon was astounding! Definitely start in the early morning, avoid if there's a chance of rain, and be ready to be dazzled! We had to climb down, crawl under, and squeeze through many areas and it felt like a mini obstacle course. We hoped there would be potable water once we got out and reached Horse Canyon, but there wasn't, so we had to continue another 2.75 miles to Escalante River and camped there. This hike was more than memorable. I absolutely loved it! I actually dropped my phone once and it powered off. I was nervous that Route Scout stopped, but once I got it back on, it had kept going! Good job Route Scout!! |
