I chose to hike the Great Western Trail up the north side of the mountain range, and then chose to hike down Adams Cabin Trail on the south side reaching the Bonneville Shoreline Trail back to the parking lot. I knew this was an extremely huge undertaking and asked a co-worker, Coumarane, to join me. We started at 6:00 am and it took us 5 hours to reach the top. The trail down was steeper in less distance, and it was probably a bad decision. I was tired and sore by the time we reached Bonneville Shoreline Trail and had 1.5 miles to go, out of water, and afternoon hot at 95 degrees! I think I had the beginning stages of heat exhaustion, but we made it. The trail up to the peak was absolutely gorgeous with aspen and pine trees, wild flowers, and a few small creeks. But the trail down was too steep (sliding all the time), overgrown, and I'll never do it again! I even saw one snake coming down, but luckily not a rattler. I'm glad I conquered that peak, so when I look out my window, I can proudly say I've been at the top! |
