Lots of gorgeous views, photo opportunities, and wild flowers the entire way. I took many pictures, but forced myself to post only 21. Lots of hikers out too, but they were the most friendly I've encountered. One fellow hiker suggested I continue from the peak another 0.6 miles to Malan's Basin. It was less traveled and a little overgrown, but not enough to deter me. Once at the basin (small meadow/clearing) a historical plaque explained the site. Very interesting! Later, the information I found was Malan's Peak/Basin is named for the Ogden pioneer family who built the wagon road to the basin and also operated the hotel there. The hotel was abandoned in the early 1900s and burned by vandals in 1913. Today, only a steam boiler (hidden in bushes) remains. See my photos for the fun details! |
