This is what I would call one of my LSD trips (Lost Soul in the Desert). I'd scouted the route beforehand, and thought of going the Chinese Wall route and then back to the Corona de Loma TH where I parked. I started on the Guadalupe Perimeter Trail, but instead of following that all the way around, went north on one of the sub-trails/Desert Classic until I finally hit Corona de Loma. Followed CdL over to Old Man's Trail. The trail wasn't easy to see, but there were two people going up that I spotted and followed them. I'm kinda wondering how the trail got its name, since it's really not made for an old man. :D Not exactly easy going up, and I was thinking "This is gonna be fun coming back down." Lots of loose rock and switchbacks. I was thinking about some of the comments I'd read from those who had hiked Old Man's Trail recently. Made it up to the saddle, admired the wonderful views and took a break. Slowly and carefully made my way back down. Thankful for my pole which helped me brace. Retraced my steps somewhat when I got back down using the sub-trails to get back to the trailhead.

The word "peripatetic" comes to mind describing this hike, and so many in the mountain preserves. I'll start thinking I'll go one route, and get out there and create my own hike.

No snakes but did see a lone coyote early in the hike.
