| no partners | | Short one today… kind of surprised how short it was. I was looking for some steepness and cliffs to work through. Found them!
Toruno Tank again. This time I went past the tank to the wide spot in the road before it turns impossible to drive in a Silverado.
To the SW of the wide part where I parked is a path that leads up a ridge. It has rock formations that remind me of hobgoblins.
After this ridge is the cairn that I found last week and I found a way to the column. Most excellent views of the valley and North toward Wrightson.
Working my way around the cliffs and more hobgoblin columns I saw light shining through a hole in a very thin wall. A small window. There was no safe way to get to it but I will include some pictures.
From there I planned to head up to some interesting cliffs that I scoped out last time.
Break time could probably be increased as I spent a lot of time studying which way to climb.
Overshot those by LOT. I never hiked to the top of the peak. There wasn’t a point. It looks like a gumdrop. I did make it almost all the way around it and came back. Headed back a different way and nothing interesting to report there.
2 hours to the minute back at the truck.
Several shots form the hunters down in Ramanote canyon.
I think this week I’ll take a series of hikes working uo the distance each time then rest for a couple of days and then make a go for Atascosa proper. |
