The Visitors Center is still closed, and the observatory is still closed to the public. However, the Highway 386 is now open on a limited basis, so I figured that today was a good day to finally get this peak bagged and tagged.
With the high gas prices, we decided not to drive all the way to the top; instead, we hiked up the old jeep road. Actually high gas prices had nothing to do with our decision -- I went down there to hike, not to drive to the top of a mountain.
It turned out to be an enjoyable hike, and it kind of reminded me of hiking up to Mount Ord, except that Ord does not have an observatory on top of it!
It was a straight forward hike that was a good workout. There were some nice views along the way and at the summit. We did not see anyone else on the hike and the weather was good, so what is not to like? |

Wildflowers Observation Isolated There were a few wildflowers on the lower section of the road. |
