| no partners | | I wanted/needed a hike close to home but away from people. This double lasso loop north of Spur Cross has never let me down for beauty and solitude. 8am start from a near empty parking lot at the TH. After hiking through Spur Cross and into the National Forest I caught up with another solo hiker at the third creek crossing. The water noise of the creek drowned out my approach and since he had a sidearm I made some racket so as not to startle him. His name was Steve and is a recent transplant from California.
He asked where I was going and since he seemed interested I invited him to join me. Being about the same age we had good conversation but it wasn't until the end of the hike that something crazy happened. He mentioned that he grew up in the Phoenix area but had lived in California since college. Turns out we grew up just blocks from each other in Phoenix and went to the same schools...but 4 years apart. Small world. It didn't end there. His parents had an inexpensive summer cabin just outside of Prescott in the 60's and 70's. Holiday Hills was the name of the place. Cathy's folks had one in the same area at the same time. They might have even known each other. Six degrees of separation is a real thing. |
