| no partners | | I was headed up to camp near Gooseberry Springs and then ride some AZT for the next two days.
I decided to go up 87 and back on I-17 Sunday. I made it to the second roundabout in Payson in record time for a Friday. Then,,, dead stop, cops everywhere, 87 is closed near Pine, bad accident...
Reroute to the Larson Ridge area was in order. I had enough daylight to ride over and check on Long Tom tank, which the state is stocking every year with trout. Fancy new sign, or maybe I missed it the last time. Saturday was a long ride down FR 236, 235, Gen Crook, Woods Canyon trail, and some other unmarked trails I found. Woods Canyon store was a joke... Why don't they have trash cans there? I hydrated and downed some sugary snacks and moved on. Willow Springs lake was crowded too and the wind had really picked up and was cold on the east side of the lake. I crossed below the spillway on a surprisingly easy to push the bike trail. Lots of activity in this area, new dirt roads leading to FR236 eventually. I saw the giant herd of sheep again, and there was one about 100 yards away from the herd, laying down. I thought it was sleeping, sick, or dead. As I rode a little closer, this giant white matted dog lifted it's head and gave me a look over. He really blends in with the sheep. |
