My first time on this trail. The remnants of the 2011 Wallow fire were clearly evident, but the remaining conifers, aspen, as well as the new growth aspen, still look nice. Walking through the standing matchsticks was eerie, with the gusty winds singing in the breeze.
We made it to and climbed to the tower, which is missing its floor, compliments of the Wallow fire. Winds were gusting probably in the 50 mph range, making it a short stay up top.

We contemplated hiking over to the true high point. The endless line of dead soldiers and the need to find and set up camp before dark outweighed that.
An enjoyable first hike for the trip. |
