Returned to the Pinta exit east of the Petrified Forest. I've been there a few times before and found the "fishing" for petroglyphs pretty good. Some really nice stuff but also some blank sections. I had no information or expectations about the section I planned to visit today.

It was an enjoyable day - I took 435 pictures, that's a record. Per usual, the walking there along the mesa edge bottom is flat and pleasant. I first passed a weird modern petroglyph of a Plains Indian Chief, then a few isolated petroglyphs, then some increasingly interesting panels, and finally a bunch of large "black" panels. Some of those were weathered and deterorating but plenty of the original elements remained. Toward the end I found a pocket with several big decorated rock walls and one had a "hunting" or "herding" scene where the game animals were directed into a large corral. That this was an ancient practice as captured in petroglyphs is well known, though I'm not sure if this is one of the famous petroglyphs that shows it. (Quick search I couldn't find an (the?) example.) Maybe somebody can tell me.

Not just petroglyphs today: some railroad stuff, some pottery/habitation signs, an inscription, and horses too!
