Day 2 up north I thought I had a good plan to get to seldom visited country and find some petroglyphs and the like.

I'd learned on a previous visit how far I could drive: so I parked at a railroad crossing and walked a ranch road to a nice looking mesa and walked it's bottom edge perimeter. The location is outside the Petrified Forest Park boundary so I could get an early start (PEFO won't let you in till 8AM) and really enjoyed the cool temperatures and open country.

Unfortunately the petroglyphs were disappointing. I added some more edge walking along another mesa but it was not my day. Took a more interesting drive home through the reservation and St. Johns. Seeing the weather forecast for the next week, I'm glad I got out for maybe the last nice walk (sans-sweat) until Fall.
