Doing some trail patrol for the Forest Service. A fellow volunteer and I headed out to survey the Bluff Spring and Dutchman trails and to check water sources at Bluff Spring and La Barge Spring. The good news is that both have decent to good flow. See water reports below and photos included with this triplog.

Bluff Springs Trail The trail is in reasonably good shape. Light trimming is needed on Cardiac hill and along Bluff Spring trail south of the mountain. Trimming is scheduled for Nov 17. Adapt-A-Trail is doing the work with assistance from Forest Service volunteers (me included).

We took a side trip to Bluff Spring. The end of the pipe is dry so I crawled/bushwhacked up to the break in the pipe. The rubber hose handiwork that connected the broken pipe sections had been removed and tossed aside. There is decent flow from the break in the pipe. Photos included. On the way back out, I found a new path that circles around the brush (to the left as you approach the spring) and goes directly to the break. You can walk upright all the way back.

Dutchman Trail from Bluff Spring to Red Tanks This section of trail is a little rough in spots. It's not anything new, though. Medium trimming is needed in spots, but the trail is decent for the most part.

La Barge Spring has good flow and, as noted by @joebartels last December, a trampled down path leads from the creek and dog legs over to the spring box. Photos included.

Aside from the work part of the hike, it was a nice hike. The wind was gusting at the trailhead when we got started. And it was cold! I watched three hikers get out of their car, walk to the TH register before turning around and leaving. The occupants of the only other car in the lot returned from their five minute hike and also left, claiming the wind was blowing too hard.

We started just after 0700. Once past Cardiac Hill, the gusting wind gave way to a light breeze. It was flat out gorgeous the rest of the hike. Not a cloud in the sky, with a nice breeze all day long. A great day in the Supes!

p.s. Peralta Road is being graded twice a month or more. Except for the last quarter mile, it's as smooth as I've seen it.

More like a pint per minute, but reasonable flow. Before you get to the duck and crawl part, look left for a new path that takes you in a semi circle to the break without crawling.

Look for a trampled down path in the dense vegetation east of the creek. The path takes a dog leg to the spring box.
