Having a Maricopa Park Pass, I felt obligated to do a hike in the San Tan Park. I opted for the Goldmine TH because that was going to be the starting point for my other planned hike. First time using the Goldmine TH. Enough parking for 30+ cars. I got there around 4:30am and I was the 6th car there.
I did a lasso involving the Goldmine, Dynamite and San Tan Trails. The loop was shorter than I thought it would be, but still pleasant. Really enjoyed the Dynamite Trail. It has a very nice elevation grade (ideal for biking or running) and does a good job of hugging the slopes of the hills it climbs. Just on the San Tan briefly to connect to the Goldmine. The Goldmine is a steep trail that offers decent views to the north, but it really is only suited for hiking or the most hardcore of runners. It is not for bikers at all. All the trails were 5 foot wide, which is nice for passing and reptile awareness.
The trails filled up fast. Only saw one person on the Dynamite Trail, but ended up encountering 41 hikers, 2 bikers and 2 runners. Wildlife minimal. Quail and some field mice. Cars were actually circling the lot when I got back, so I relocated for my second hike. |
