Started from Warpaint around 1745. Hot as we ascended Corona, but the sun had gone down, so I didn’t cry too much. At the parking lot, we headed over to the lookout off Geronimo before resuming the loop. Chumley tried to kill me on a couple of uphill sections. Corona East has a lot of loose rock, so coming down in the dark slows things down a bit. A hiker said he saw a snake as we passed by him near the trailhead, but we didn’t see it. New signs at the trailhead have a mostly updated trail map. Young Man and Devastator trails are now official and have new names, and Marcos De Niza now seems to extend along Guadalupe Ridge to the junction of what used to be Young Man. Good workout hike.

Started from Warpaint on the renamed Kash Patel trail or whatever it's called now before cutting over to Corona and up the hill. Up top we headed out to the viewpoint on the ridge above whatever Geronimo is called now, about half a mile past the Buena Vista bench. It was a pleasure to tourguide Linda to a spot on SoMo that she hadn't been to before! :o

Headed back down via Old Man, which was steep and rocky. My 2025 remains rattlesnake free, which is a surprise, and the snake whisperer didn't deliver as I would have expected.

Nice sky colors and air quality views across the valley. Rain has given some life to the mountain. The Ocotillos are loaded with green leaves and the bursera looking super healthy. A couple of barrels were even sprouting flowers!

I had an open morning at work and decided to fit in a hike in between yesterday's rain and this evening's. Beautiful sunrise on the drive to the trailhead, but I'd missed the best of it by the time I got there. Got started ~6:30AM and didn't have much of a plan when I set out. But I had a few hours and decided to go up Guadalupe Ridge and down to Desert Classic/Corona de Loma...I don't get over that way too often.

Crossed paths with johnlp heading down to Desert Classic and chatted briefly as we passed. I took Old Man Trail back up to the ridge and past the Harvester benchmark, and I noticed johnlp down below on National, then we passed again as he headed up my way. I took National/Hidden Valley back to Pima Canyon TH to finish it off. Cool and mostly cloudy from start to finish, and one of the quietest days on the trails I can recall...over the first 3/4 of the hike, I saw no bikers and only 3-4 hikers, and two of those were LP. I'd hoped to get some views of snow on Four Peaks, but no luck with thick clouds in the east.

Kelly thought we had been avoiding Old Man's trail, so off we went. Up Geronimo, down Corona de Loma, Up Ols Man, and back down Geronimo. Good workout.
Refreshments and breakfast with the gecko clan after. Thanks Kelly! :)

13 years since I hiked the Mormon Trail, seems like I never did it because I can barely remember it. Started about 5:45am in the dark. First 2 hikers I saw were coming downhill with no lamps in total darkness :-s . Saw a few more heading downhill, must have got an early start to finish early.

Got up to the National Trail and took a left into Hidden Valley, bypassed Fat Man's Pass. Some of the slick and polished granite in Hidden Valley made for a bit more hazardous conditions with the damp sand everywhere.

halfway into Hidden Valley I took the rough route up to the Guadalupe Ridge and hiked that over to its junction with the National Trail. I hadn't hiked on Guadalupe Ridge in about 10 years, so I forgot how much bouldering is on this trail/route. It ended up taking more time that I had intended but at least that was out of the way early. The cooler morning weather and dampness also helped.

Took the National over to Corona de Loma and headed down. Along the flat portion of Corona de Loma I was passed by a trail runner with no shirt, no water, and smoking a cigarette :o . One of the odder things I've seen hiking.

headed up Corona de Loma east and quickly got off trail, heading up the canyon when the trail cuts to the south a bit and out of the canyon. There is a faint trail in the canyon, but it was getting fainter the further up I went, so when I caught my mistake I just doubled back. The ascent back up was slow as the sun was heating things up a bit by now. No hikers or bikers along this trail at all.

got back on the National and headed back. Walked back all the way through Hidden Valley, then made a left and got on the Mormon Trail further down. From Hidden valley to the trailhead it was steady traffic, pretty much all hikers.

the lot was full when I got back and the late arrivals were circling like vultures for open spots. Best views were of the mountains to the north newly covered in snow from the storms the night before. Nice workout hike on trails I haven't done in a long time, got nearly 3K' AEG

Started from the Warpaint trailhead. Saw two javelina as I hiked towards the Old Man trail.
Hiked up Old Man, west on National down and up Geronimo, west to the Gila Valley Lookout, and down Corona de Loma.
A couple new sections of trail have been built on Corona making it easier for MTBs to negotiate. A lot of work for very little gain IMO.
Didn't see anyone until I was almost down Corona.
Nice and cool out. Somo got a little rain last night. Spotty though.
Good workout. :)

Came thru Equestrian to get to Warpaint. Turning a corner, blinded by the sun, I hit a javelina. Whoops. I think it was fine, it limped off towards the park. At first I thought my bumper hit it, but now I think it was my tire.

Breezy. Made a loop of ⬆️ Old Man - ➡️ Midlife Crisis - ⬇️ Young Man, using Desert Classic, Guadalupe Perimeter, and some other mumbo jumbo to tie it together. I don’t hike east on Guadalupe Ridge very often, so I had to pay a little more attention to the route in a few places thru the boulders.

Didn’t see many hikers until I was back on Desert Classic. Two young women were near the water tank off Kachina and were looking for Fat Mans Pass. I gave them the bad news, and quickly determined they didn’t know any directions, east vs west meant nothing to them. I suggested they just walk Desert Classic for a bit, then turn around. No need to get ambitious. They then asked where I got my nails done. Um, I haven’t gotten a manicure in at least ten years, so no good answer for you there, sorry.

Very windy for the final mile. Nice loop, except for the Desert Classic part. Packed out one mylar balloon.

Squeezed in a hike with Daniela before I escape AZ again. Met at Warpaint at 0800 and headed up Corona East. So much hotter than I would like. I hated it. But up we went. No breeze. Too much sunlight.

West on National, then down Corona. Looked like some trailwork had been done on Corona sometime since I was last on it. Still atrociously hot, but at least we were going downhill. Only saw one other hiker all day, and a handful of bikes. Good to see Daniela again. Hopefully the weather will be more reasonable when I get back to AZ in four weeks.
