I noticed that there's a section on the east end of the Latigo Trail that I never hiked before. I thought that maybe it was recently built, but when we got there the sign for where it leads to looked pretty faded.
From the Brown's Ranch TH, we headed south to the Latigo Trail, and then took the unnamed spur trail that goes to the entrance gate, then got back on the Latigo. We did a loop of the Latigo, Whiskey Bottle, and Chuckwagon Trails. I've never done the Jane Rau Trail, so it was the perfect trail to do at the end to add a little bit of mileage. It's very well built and has the usual informative signs about the desert flora. Finished up just under 6 miles for the day. We got done very quickly, and I even felt like doing another mile or 3, but I didn't want to push it. The kids are ok once they get going, but the 6:30am wakeup calls in the winter don't thrill them very much. |
