Every 1 to 3 years, the shepherds must add a new layer of broom (*escoba*) to the areas thinned by wind and snow. This usually takes a team of 3–4 people **one full day** per hut. * **Gathering the Material:** The most time-consuming part isn't the building—it's the harvesting. It takes days of hard labor to cut and transport the thousands of "bundles" (*manojos*) of broom needed for a single roof.
A later photo will show you the material they use. The Park and owners have to train people to do this. I think it would be an interesting project. I think it might be kind of fun to stay in one while working on others... as long as I had some good wine and cheese.
