Did not encounter a single soul after leaving Ramadas 14 and 15 at the junction with H-2 near the pedestrian bridge. The H-1 is rocky and climbs gently up to a high point at the SW corner, el 1,489' by my GPS. Then it drops steadily in a series of switchbacks toward the subdivision, Arrowhead Lakes. Didn't follow the trail, aka the Coachwhip, to its eastern terminus. Instead I turned off on a side trail leading down to some sort of monuments about 50 yards S of the H-1. It was not until later that I saw a sign saying this area was not for public use. The monument site, with its four cement-block constructions, is so isolated and uninspiring, few would want to visit it anyway. Someone left a very small American flag on top of a "wall," propped up between two rocks. The site is at one of the lowest points in the park at 1,308' el. I turned back here and headed for the Pinnacle Peak parking lot, 1.27 mi away, reaching there about 30 mins after sunset. |
