Today I did just the eastern half, from the VC to the juncture of the two trails and back. If you simply want to meditate, this is a relatively quiet hike, away from the masses trudging up Shaw Butte and North Mountain. Done this loop so often, I now notice small changes and continue to find it mentally engaging. When I got back to the Visitors Center TH at sunset, a group of about 20 was preparing to leave on a night hike under what astronomers call a "waxing gibbous" moon, in this case two days away from the Full phase. I assumed they were going up to the Shaw Butte summit. It seems to be the destination for most moonlight hikers. |
