| no partners | | | My 7th trip to summit this year. Departed from Visitors Center, wanting to get more steps in. Went up the paved trail this time, just for the exercise. A dangerous kind of hike for me. Mind was elsewhere, thinking about the day's events in Boston, the killing of one of the suspected Marathon bombers and the capture of his brother. It seemed like less hikers on the trail. Maybe the absentees were in front of a TV set watching the news. Stayed on the summit for a long time. Ate a deli sandwich, watched a few golden woolly carpenter bees circulate thru a young palo verde and a hummingbird inspecting one of the towers. Can't figure out the bees. They seem to be searching for something but they never stop to light on a flower like honey bees. Tried to shoot photos of them thru the chainlink fence with utter failure. Came down too early thinking the sunset would not be a pretty one. But it was. |
