| no partners | | Larry and I have both been wanting to complete the Lower Loop thru LaBarge. We just didn't know we were gonna make an unconventional loop out of it!
From First Water TH we took the Second Water trail to Boulder Canyon trail and took a left to check out the Paint Mine. We continued that direction until jumping off at LaBarge Creek. With the water low the going was fast and we were soon entering the canyon, Larry's first visit. We stopped before the big pools for some rest and a snack. Then we pushed on through the canyon. It is such a beautiful area of giant boulders, water, trees and cliffs! Soon we were at Paul Bunyan's sofa, which was the farthest in I had ever been. It is a good lunch spot/turn-around point for those not wanting to complete the loop and they have the softest rock pillows in town!
Once out of the canyon we decided to go left onto the Cavalry Trail instead of taking the normal right to complete the loop. It was longer but I'm glad we did as I had never gone through Marsh Valley before and boy was it beautiful! The colors were popping off the cliffs!
We caught the Dutchman to Bull Pass, more new stuff for me! Back down through Aylor's Camp and over Parker Pass to complete our loop! Unconventional but soooo worth it!! |
