It's nice to come up here on a weekday and avoid the obnoxiousness typically associated with this place at this time of year.
We took a moderate pace up, with Rincon and Lily doing double miles early on. That might have caught up with them later! Encountered a few groups of people between the saddle and the summit, including the Google Trekker. The Flagstaff Visitor Center has it on loan and they've got a handful of trails they are photographing. In a few months it'll be online and you'll never have to leave your house.
We split up for the return trip, but somehow ended up back at the cars within 10 minutes of each other. The ridge line, 11783, Abineau, and Rees are great. Getting to them is misery and absolutely not recommended. The route down Rees to the east isn't much different that the north side. Great for the first thousand feet and then lots of deadfall below 10,500 all the way down. Nonetheless, we opted to skip the road hike and take the more direct path. It was shorter, but probably not more than 15 minutes quicker.
Dinner in Flagstaff was delicious and was capped by the adventure of a good skunk spraying. |

Autumn Foliage Observation Moderate Inner Basin just getting started. 1st full week of October should be prime. Looking down to Snowbowl, Hart Prairie was still almost all green. |
