I have passed the Turnoff for the North Rim 5 Times in the last 3 Years. I decided I wasn't going to do it again... So, the Day I left to come Home from Utah, I decided I would hang a Right and go see it and spend the Day. I totally misjudged the Immense Amount of Miles I would Cover and the Time I would Spend.... For some Reason, never having Researched the Plateau or the North Rim, I thought that the Entrance for the Park would be about 10 Miles from Jacob Lake....Imagine my Surprise... That was only 1 of many Surprises actually....This ended up being almost 150 Miles worth of Side Trip....
I played Tag with Storms all Day...It made for some Amazing Clouds and Scenes...Adding Icing on the Cake was the Fact that the Fall Foliage had started to Peak a little bit. Add some Wildlife and the Camera was in Danger of Overheating...
I am in Love with the Kaibab Plateau...I really enjoy Big, Grassy, Tree-Lined Meadows and this was pretty much Perfect... I had no Idea how big this Plateau really was and I knew I was just seeing a small Sample from the Road....I was not so in Love with the Burnt Areas before you get there, but to Soften the Harshness a bit, all of the little Aspen out there were Glowing Golden. The Hills were Paved in Fluttering Color... And then, eventually, after more than a few Stops and a stupid Spill, I came into the North Rim Area. I Parked at the Far End of the Parking and walked a Trail along the Edge to Bright Angel Point. I didn't spend a lot of Time here, as the Storm caught up. But I got to see what it was all about and what I'd like to do in the Future in this Area...
And then I drove out to Point Imperial and Cape Royal...Just Amazing...More Photos, more Tag with the Storm and then I was driving back out several Hours later. I got to see the Bison on the way out and I don't think I have seen more Deer on a given Day than I did driving out in the late Afternoon...Pretty Cool Day for sure....
It's not going to take 52 Years for me to Return, that's for Certain. I will probably try to tack this Area on to whatever Trips I make into Utah and add a few extra Days...Just Loved it and it was a pretty nice Time of Year to hit it I think. Anything after Labor Day seems to be a Good Time with Less People....
Photos: Yeah, ok, lets see. First Time seeing the North Rim. Incredible Clouds. First Time seeing the North Rim with Incredible Clouds. Seeing lots of Wildlife. The Beginning of the Fall Foliage Season. Seeing lots of Wildlife at the Beginning of Fall Foliage Season...Ok, whatever, the Photoset is another Bomb....
So how many of you thought I did a Rim to Rim Hike? Didn't even think about that when I Titled this..... |
