Every time we get a good rain, I think about heading out to the little canyon off the Treasure Loop Trail. I have been through there on my Reverse Flatiron hikes and I was lucky to catch the water flowing a few years ago as well. With all the rain we have had lately, I decided to see if I could get lucky and catch the waterfalls flowing again.

I arrived to the Massacre/Crosscut trail head about 7am and it was raining hard (that’s ok), but there was A LOT of lightning. I had a near death experience with lightning in my younger days and I really do not want to experience that again. So, I went and got some coffee and waited for it to improve.

Once the lightning stopped, I started up. There were a few cars in the parking area, but I saw no other hikers on the trail the entire time.

The trail was damp, but I saw no running water. I was a little disappointed that it might not be flowing. But, once I took the trail off the Treasure Loop, I could hear a little running water. The closer I got to the canyon, I could hear it louder and louder.

I turned the corner and saw a little waterfall across the drainage and the little creek coming down from the canyon was flowing. Not the strongest flow, but flowing nonetheless.

This place is so scenic, even without the water. I love the spires and the look of this place. I stayed around for quite a while, trying to capture some long exposure shots, video and a ton of other pictures.

I will be back here soon, as I am planning to hit the Reverse Flatiron this month or the start of next month.

When I got back to the trail head, there were A LOT of cars…..checking out Massacre Falls perhaps?

This is a nice little hike on it’s own, with loads of scenery!
