Started at Peralta Trailhead and finished at the Cholla parking in the state park. Peralta trailhead parking was filling up around 0800. At least the crowds had not started on the trail yet, passed a group of 4 after the last creek crossing and there were a handful of people hanging around the saddle. Forecast to be near record high temps today but the sun remained at my back for a good ways and this side of the mountain was graced with a breeze so wore just a t shirt all day as I warmed up quickly on the way to Fremont. Did not notice any water along East Boulder Canyon, at the Piper Spring took a quick look into the dry wash below. Between hill 3115 and the junction with the Dutchman trail passed by 2 backpackers going the other way and then no one else past Fremont Saddle until the Black Mesa Trail junction. Also on this same stretch I attempted the hikers favorite manuever , the face plant , had to settle for only the knee and chest landing. There were some pools but no flowing water in the area of the Needle viewpoint, at least a chance to wet the neck scarf. For the tenth time I looked for the Horse with the laid back ears on Palomino Mountain and failed to see it, but I’m usually the last to find Waldo. Passed through First Water trailhead stayed on Dutchman to the horse trailer lot. My plan from here was to avoid walking First Water road and head over to the Crosscut Trailhead via the path from the old Massacre grounds trailhead. managed to reach the cairned horse trail to the Massacre Grounds but then I ended up meandering around the Jeep roads, following horse tracks and when it was done it flushed me into Weekes Wash and First Water road anyway. After only a short distance on the road I walked through the Crosscut Trailhead and began Jacob’s Crosscut Trail to Treasure Loop Trail ending up in the Cholla parking lot. Had originally thought of having camping supplies delivered here and continuing on in the morning to Peralta Trailhead to make a loop but opted to delay this part of the plan for knee wound care and mostly to avoid sleeping on the ground. Thanks to my wife for the pick up and ride home.
