Belated post. Second hike of the day. After the Wave Cave drove over to the Goldfield to follow up on a trail that I had come across a couple months ago while doing the Javelina Mine Trail. Part of the problem with doing unmarked, unsigned trails is that you may not know what trail you are doing and there is a chance that different people will have different names for the trail. That seems to be the case here.

I got on the trail around 8am. Starting from a pull off around mile marker 203 on highway 88, and followed the Javelina Trail (which starts off as a dirt road but turns into a single track as it turns north. At 1.5 miles in I reached a juncture and turned toward the east and headed up a wash, following a faint trail and periodic cairns that brought me to a saddle. Along this route I came across a stake with the words Gold Eagle Nugget 3 N.W. impressed on a small metal plate. (This made me think that I was on the Golden Eagle Nugget Trail, but HAZ seems to say otherwise). Anyway, upon reaching the saddle, I didn't see an obvious trail (or cairn), so I decided to make my way towards the highest "peak". This took me to the south. Along the way I did come across occasional cairns but no define trail to tie them together. I also came across several other stakes, one of which had Gold Eagle Nugget 1 stamped on it. There are three high points on this mountain, the highest point being the furthest to the east. It was fun going along this ridgeline and I great views of the surrounding vista (and perhaps a good view of what is described as the Golden Nugget Trail in HAZ off to the north of the trail that I used to reach this peak). The highest peak had a register which I signed. Looks like the peak gets about 20 visits a year. On the way back down I visited the other high point that was north and west of the saddle I described. I think this got me fairly close to overlooking the Javelina Mine claim though I couldn't identify it from where I stood. Actually got side tracked on the way back. I picked up the Javelina at the juncture where I left it but about .3 miles on the way back I strayed onto a trail that swung to the west of the Javelina. I didn't know this trail existed and it took me a good 5 minutes to for my realize that I was on a different trail. I wasn't overly worried as I was going in the right direction. As it turned out, it was just on the other side of the hills of Javelina Trail and it wrapped right into that trail where it turned north. It made for a nice loop, but I'm not sure if that trail has a name. It is a very defined trail so I would assume that it does.

Really enjoyed this hike. Feel a little guilty posting this description under Gold Eagle, when it is clearly not the Gold Eagle described in HAZ. But I'd didn't see any descriptions that came close to what I did and there was evidence on this hike that at least someone had considered this to be the Gold Eagle Nugget. If anyone can add clarification to the mountain that I did or the Trai. That I came back on it would be greatly appreciated. (We need to get someone to be the official trail marker for the Goldfield area. Looks to be some good trails out there, but no consistent, universal info on them). Had the trails to myself, though I did see motor bikes off in the distance. No wildlife. Great weather!
