| no partners | | After work hike. Revisited my old stomping ground when I was just getting into hiking. Trail info says this is a 1.5 mile trail one-way. Either I missed something in my hike today or the trail has changed from its initial design. I only got about .8 miles before the trail seemed to end. Started from the Holbert TH, where I believe the Box Canyon Loop Trail starts as well. Followed it to where it intersects and seemed to end with the Lomitas Trail. This area has changed a lot over the years and I have a feeling that the Box Canyon is not what it once was. There is a chance that the continuation of this trail has been supplanted by another trail, most likely Lomitas. I noticed that the Box Canyon still doesn't have the new decals, like most of the other trails so maybe it is being phased out? Anyone know what the original track was for the Box?
Anyway....continued straight on Lomitas until it connected to the Hideout Loop Trail (old decals...on its way out as well?) and then circled back to the Lomitas which I took through the (Box?) canyon and connected back to the Box Canyon Loop. First sign of monsoons! Nice dust storm was moving in just as I was finishing. Seemed to be coming in from the north...very unusual. |
