I was avoiding the inevitable mud from the recent rain and started at the Needle Vista lot. To my surprise the flat trails in this area were not bad at all. I ended up off-trail (go figure) and crossed a ridge. There was an old prospect with a quartz pile nearby but I avoided the temptation to look down the shaft. The fence around the hole was pretty much useless. I looped round by old First Water Ranch and hiked back. I found a cell phone on the trail after not seeing anyone for a good mile. Once I made the mistake of picking it ](*,) up and had to track down the owner. The signal there was too weak so I drove east and called few contacts then drove back and dropped it off. Other than that it was an uneventful stroll.
