| no partners | | Hit this trail for another early start on a cool morning. No bug problems, plenty of light before 5:00 am and fewer people out than last week. I hiked the loop in the opposite direction so it would seem like a different hike. I'm easy to fool. About a mile into the hike I saw a log next to the trail that I swear looked just like a hawk. I was getting way too close so the dim light must have been playing tricks on me. Turns out a juvenile hawk was perched about 3 feet from the trail. The hawk never flew off just opened it's beak and spread it's wings as I slowly hiked by. I was close enough to use my flash to get a decent photo. It seemed healthy but maybe being young and just waking up didn't fly or try to run away? After the hawk encounter I saw a several bunnies along the way but no critter that compared. I ran a few sections on the loop and knocked 5 minutes off last weeks time. I finished at 7:00 am and it was still nice out. |
