With the warming temps, I decided this hike would be a good choice for some good miles to avoid the heat. I started just before 6:00 am but I think 5:30 am would have been light enough. I was cool at first but then nice as I hiked up the the shadows of the hillside. I passed two hikers early on and then was passed by a mountain biker and a runner higher up. It was chilly at the summit so I didn't stay long and it never was hot for me as I finished before 10:30 am. The last few miles the traffic started as many people were on the road. I used deep woods off on my hat this time and that seemed to keep most of the gnats away. The key to this hike on the weekend is start early to get a parking spot, avoid the crowd and enjoy to cool morning air.
