| no partners | | A few weeks ago on the Government Hill hike I wanted to summit Peak 5501 as well but got turned away by the thick brush trying to go up what looked like the best route from the saddle. After reading Flying_Fliver's triplog he experienced the same wall. I went to the HAZ map created a route using topo and satellite views to find route with openings in the brush. It worked. I decided to hike from the iron bridge trailhead since I hiked the other trail sections this year already. I started early and only saw a few other hikers going in. The route to Peak 5501 was steep but the brush was workable. The summit register was created 1/29/2011 by Mark Nichols from Benson, AZ. I was the only other person to sign the register now nine years later. The views up there are nice. I looked at the ridgeline as an alternate return but decided exit the way I came in. I passed probably twenty hikers on the way out. Time to go farther out... |
