There were a couple of stretches that were constant buzzing from all the bees, especially around one of the white-flowering shrubs. No buzzing from anything else, but I was uncomfortable about that in a couple of places, especially where I turned around. The trail was there, but it was overgrown with knee-high grasses for a long stretch ahead, which made it tough to see what might be in there. With that and the time constraint I had anyway, it was a good time to save the rest for another day. Another thought: I sure wish I'd been able to see this area before the fires came through, and see what it looked like! An unexpected highlight: the views from the road coming in (and going out). The Peeley road has to be one of my favorites now for mountain views everywhere; coming over the ridge onto the north side and seeing the mountain with the cliff faces across Deer Creek, and the drop-off into the canyon itself -- that was great! And as advertised, the road was in good condition; easily done in 40-45 minutes for an old Subaru wagon |
