| no partners | | I went to gym class earlier but wanted to get a hike in since the weather will be iffy tomorrow. I realized when driving here I really had meant to do the other Preserve, but oh well. I got out of Tonto 3 and felt a very cold breeze and said, uh oh. But then the sun came out. I decided to proceed. If it got too cold I could get back fairly quickly.
I tried to keep a decent pace as I started counter-clockwise. I didn't encounter another hiker until I got over on the west side flat area which is pretty amazing. I got up the hill to Apache Vista pretty fast I thot and back down. It would get chilly every once in awhile so I altered my route by going to the Apache Wash west Jctn and then back up to do Apache Vista again. I decided to come back around the west side and go back to the TH after taking a detour to the Ocotillo/Ridgeback Jctn.
The clouds made for a pretty sky. I saw dots of lupine and some fiddleneck. I saw a couple squirrels and stopped to take a picture of a cactus wren. I've been carrying my zoom camera with me. I also saw a hawk and 3 ravens but not within picture range. I only saw one lizard... speaking of lizards, I now know why my yard seems low on them when I saw a local long hair black cat walking on the party wall with a lizard hanging out of its mouth. This cat I also think killed a pigeon as I had to pick up what it didn't eat .
Today is the anniversary of the pandemic declaration which reminds me; has anyone forgotten their mask in their dream? I did a couple nites ago; surely a sign that I am good to go now .
This time my watch and HAZel almost agreed on mileage. WATCH: 5.82 miles, 131 avg bpm 164 max. 17% max, 46% anaerobic, 37% aerobic burning 683 calories finishing at 4:24PM. Temp at start 62.5 and 27% humidity. |

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled. |
