| no partners | | This after-the-dentist hike was not my original intent as I wanted to do Sunrise Peak via Adero Canyon TH but Google took me to this TH instead. I really didn't want to drive back to the other TH so I made the best of it. I tried to decipher the map and mileage to see what I could come up with and just decided on Dixie Mine and a little more to get me to around the 6 mile mark. I got a later start than I would have liked or I would have gone further.
The last time I was here was 2014 and I did remember the rather leisurely start thru the neighborhood to the actual start of the trail. I either forgot or they didn't have the $2 entry fee but I braved it and continued as it was 1/2 mile back to Tonto 3. The desert is so dry over here; it's really quite disheartening and seems not as worthy of pictures but I did manage to eke out a dozen or so. The trail is pretty nice and I did run into about a dozen hikers during my trek including a couple that asked me if it was a loop trail.
I remembered this one little section that goes through a neat area but other than that, I didn't remember much. The trail does have its shares of ups and downs which I was glad of so I could get my heart rate up. It seemed rather warm to me but I got over it and didn't notice as much once I got to the mine. I had never been up to the mine itself so I enjoyed that. There are cottonwood trees below it which I thot was interesting. The covered adit seems large and deep too.
The clouds were swirly today so I did take more pictures to capture that. I saw that there was a hill that went up east of the mine so I decided to take that to get a little more elevation under my belt. It's a nice little trail and once at the top you get views to the other side of the Preserve including East End Peak. I could see where the trail wraps around and it looks like it goes to the north and west. It's too bad they can't get a Loop back to the trailhead out of this trail from here. I took a couple pictures of the distant mountains including Mt Ord and the Four Peaks.
I headed back down the hill and past the mine. As I suspected, it was cooler on the way back because the breeze was blowing in my face. I saw a few more hikers and some more lizards for a total of around 1/2 dozen lizards. On the way back, besides hiking for beer, I was thinking about the big dental bill I just paid and the big one ahead, sheesh! I would think one medical issue would be sufficient to start the year .
I had parked Tonto 3 so that I could see the Preserve. I got to enjoy a hawk flying around while I imbibed. There was also this woman filming herself in her Benz convertible. She was doing some sort of commercial as a co-founder of a company that repairs nails after using gel nails after many years. I could hear her and see her as she was parked behind me. I thot her first cut was the best but she did about 1/2 dozen takes. She said her name too fast though or I would try to google her. She is a new resident though as we did have a brief conversation. |

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled. |
