This hike went beyond the one from last Thursday, Hidden Tank, and went beyond. Last time I saw some cool cliffs and decided to go back and check them out.
10:11 – left the truck with half a gallon of water.
12:10 - Back at the truck – with one pint of water.
Hot, sunny and no breeze.
I totally overshot the first set of cliffs and by the time I saw what I’d done it was too late to play catch up so I looped over the ridge and hit the return canyon with bigger cliffs.
The creek bed was mostly clear of brush and there was an intermittent cow path. Lots of big boulders in places to hop around. There were some 8-12 foot ledges that were a challenge.

Water situation looked dire for a while and I went too long to take a break. There was just about zero shade for the whole trek.

One close call with bees. Came up to an 8 foot cliff in the creek bed and the bees sounded like a jet. Soooo freakin loud.
Went about 100 yards out of my way to avoid them.

All in all, a good midday work out with great views and interesting canyon scrambling. |
