Saturday I struck out toward the border East of Nogales.
Out of Nogales toward Patagonia again.
Turn right immediately after passing Little Red School house.
It literally turns into the parking lot. Keep going.
This is Dusquene Road.
Followed this all the way to Washington camp.
-
Stopped at the big black wooden chutes that were used to load trucks with ore.
This is a pretty good place to look for minerals and crystals.
There is a really big and deep and vertical mine shaft.
Others are horizonal or diagonal but the vertical one would be easy to fall into.
Most of the minerals here are pyrite and some tiny cubes that are copper color.
It’s been picked over pretty good.
-
Left here after an hour of looking around and moved on.
Saw a road I hadn’t noticed before and at the top was an observatory.
The caretaker gave me a tour of the 2 meter telescope.
Very interesting.
-
From here headed to the border and drove along the border road some.
Lunch under the shade of a big tree.
Could have thrown a rock into Mexico from where I napped after lunch.
Found the road that goes up the a tower that is very prominent.
The turn-around at the top gives an excellent view of the San Rafael Valley, Mexico and Mt. Washington.

Near Lochiel on the South side of the Barrier/Fence is a small memorial to a Saint or someone.
Unfortunately these were damaged by gunfire.
It’s above a 50 yard dash from the fence. I recommend admiring from afar,

The hiking today came in spurts.
Covered half a mile at the chutes total. .25 getting there and back and .25 again retracing my steps to find my phone. It was ,as always it seems, at the last place i looked.
-
Covered another half mile along the border road.
And another half mile at another interesting mining road beyond the tower.

It was warm and breezy.

Planning to go back to find BM 114
