| no partners | | I love this little loop. A nice 5-6 miles, excellent scenery and nothing too crazy.
I started out in the pre-dawn and went counter-clockwise down First Water Trail. The clouds looked very promising as I hiked up to Garden Valley. The color show was short and the clouds took over right after a brief flash of golden hour light.
I always stop at the arch along this one. It's a great place for scenery for sure. Weavers Needle, the mountain, the Goldfields and the cool tuft ridges near the spring. After spending a bunch of time at the arch taking pictures, I hiked down and around to the spring. It was lightly flowing. Lots of mud puddles and signs of our recent monsoon rains.
There were some nice pools near the spring and all along First Water Creek. I saw a bunch of soon to be sphinx moth catepillars in the area. 100's of them. We will soon be seeing those buzzing about.
I opted to hike up and over the hill by the old ranch and took First Water Road back to the trailhead.
A great Saturday morning. Not too hot (but REALLY muggy), a nice sunrise, an arch, some cool scenery. I also saw a buzzard, an owl and a couple Coues deer going up the hill by the ranch as well. |
