We opted to do the Black Mesa Loop clockwise and started off towards Black Mesa Trail.
We can across a few campers with cool dogs and another hiker. After that, we saw nobody until heading back.
The fire damage is still evident, but the new “normal” of the Superstition Grasslands is firming up. The trail from First Water up to the saddle of Black Mesa was in good condition. A little overgrown going down, but still nice.
The cloudless and hazy skies did not help me out with the photos, but it was very nice weather. A little chilly at the start, but warming nicely as the sun rise higher.
We hiked down the Dutchman Trail a little to visit my favorite crested cactus. Still holding on, but the base of this beauty is looking a little lean and it seems to be leaning more than before. Hope this one holds on, it’s magnificent!
We saw 3-4 small groups hiking back up and over Parker Pass and couple more heading back to the trailhead.
Another awesome hike with my visiting son #2. I need to get all three out there. Maybe Christmas or Boxing Day!? |
