It includes interpretive signs and some steel tipis not to mention great views of the St Mary Valley looking over St Mary Lake and toward Logan Pass. FYI per google - As the English Language is full of complexities the word tipi can be spelled tepee or teepee.
Construction on this beautiful area began in 2012 and opened in 2017. "The site of the Red Eagle Fire in 2006 and the Reynolds Creek Fire in 2015, many thought the St. Mary valley might never recover. But today fresh stands of young trees, fields of raspberries and a general greening of the area puts a lie to such pessimistic views. Principal Landscape Architect Kent Watson said the project is one of his proudest creations." The cultural history of this region spans twelve thousand years, and is commonly divided into pre-contact and post-contact periods. It is also interesting how they had to take into account grizzly bears mitigation. https://hikearizona.com/images/2022/Sai ... ook_EA.pdf
It was a beautiful crisp morning for us to walk this three vista loop and review the interpretive signs and check out the flora and teepees to say nothing of the fabulous surroundings. This is well worth the stop as you drive near St Mary, Highway 89 southside. The Overlook is on the west side of the road. It's now paved and has a Blackfeet Indian sculpture in the lot. I think the interpretive information in the video is quite interesting including about the Park, the Blackfeet, and the Fire: [ youtube video ]
PS It's interesting that the satellite view shows the current side-walked pathways still in dirt. |

Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled. |
