| no partners | | The line at Costco Fuel was long this afternoon and Cave Creek is under construction so it took me a little longer to get started. What a sensational photo day this ended up being. I really just wanted to hike. Oh well. It was also a tad chillier than I thot but I headed up the hill and did really well. I hope this is a good sign that my hiking prowess is coming back. I know it's not much of a hill but I marched right up it nonetheless .
With the sun and little broken clouds, it was a fabulous view on top. I hiked up the Overlook Trail counterclockwise so I could keep the UP going. From this point I would not see anyone else until down off the Sidewinder Trail. I snapped more photos than I thot but with the Orb being somewhat subdued with those Altocumulus clouds, it made for some nice light. I had no idea what I would get to see in about an hour.
I walked by the formerly leafy ocotillos that are now naked. The sun was a little less clouded over so it warmed me up a bit as I was slightly chilled. I stopped by the Christmas Cholla and took some shots with the hope that I could figure out how to get a decent photo of it. The light was subdued so those pics turned out fine but the ones with full light still didn't look very good.
On the way back to the TH there was a little section with baby cholla knobs on the ground. It was very odd. As I got nearer I noticed a couple families and photographers out and it finally dawned on me, since this was the second time in a few days that I'd seen this type of photo action; families are having the photos taken for a Christmas card. This late afternoon they would be rewarded as the sunset was very grand.
I saw probably 1/2 dozen hikers and 1/2 dozen bikers on my hike; no lizards. I had another good hike so I was glad of that.
I tried a new beer from AZ Wilderness Brewery, their newly brewed Chai Porter. I had to drive downtown to pick it up and being downtown is always an adventure in and of itself. I was duly entertained by the activity with the family photo shoots. I kept my eye on the sunset and all of a sudden I had to jump out of Tonto with camera in tow and started shooting all directions (except south). Wow did I ever get a show . The great thing about shooting out here is I got to use the cactus in my foreground. The hues were constantly changing too. Yes, I was in maximum Tibbermode; so much so that I ended up creating a seven minute slideshow of my hike and the sunset using music from LosDosSloFolks [ youtube video ] ENJOY!

Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled. |
