I actually did the route I pre-planned in my head except I decided on my second time coming down Apahce Vista to go counterclockwise back to the TH to take advantage of the sun and stay out of the shade.

I started the hike counterclockwise. I got up to Apache Vista pretty fast. Lots of people on the trail; to be expected this time of year. I would see quite a few people hiking today except on the north end of Sidewinder and going up the northside of Ridgeback. It was a good day to be out with nearly perfect temps; I could always feel a little of the chill in the air and so grateful I wasn't in my hometown this week as they experienced the -35 temps (not including wind chill). I don't know how I survived that back in the 60s!

The air was very hazy today and you could see it everywhere... odd to say that you can see air but you know what I mean. The trails are so nice. I think I say that everytime I'm out here. I like the grade going up the north side of Ridgeback with two long switchbacks. I headed back down the mountain and over to Apache Vista where I would see the most people today. I started slowing my pace a bit on this last hike up Apache Vista. Plus my abs were killing me. We had a substitute instructor yesterday and while the crunches didn't seem particularly different or hard, apparently my abs thot so  . And now my legs can join in the pain.

It appears the chollas are having lots of babies and the green weeds are popping up, not as pretty as the golf-greens we saw last week on our Sonoran Preserve south hike. I got a couple nice shots of a cactus wren. It actually stayed on top of the cholla to let me take a few photos. And now I was so hungry all of a sudden.

I wanted to get in a little longer hike since Christmas Eve and Christmas Dinner involves a lot of food and alcohol. I'm in charge of cocktails and Fireball will be involved. Merry Christmas to everyone🦌 ! (and if you can't tell, that emoji is a reindeer).

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.
