| no partners | | It didn't look like my schedule for the upcoming week would give me a chance to hike any mornings before work, so I decided to get out on Labor Day and hike to Goat Hill, a new one for me. It's a longer hike and the weather is still hot, but I figured if I started early and kept a decent pace, I'd finish before it got too bad. I started ~5AM, and there was just enough light--and enough hikers/bikers with flashlights--that I never turned mine on, then clear skies and a nice sunrise.
The trails were quiet as I got farther out on National, then traffic picked up again as I approached Telegraph Pass. It had been years since I'd been there, and this was my first time hiking in from Pima Canyon. I'd never hiked the SoMo trails west of there, so I was into new territory beyond Telegraph Pass, and it was nice to get some new scenery.
I reached Goat Hill ~2.5 hours after I started and took a break up there to enjoy the views while I ate second breakfast, then started back ~8AM. The return hike was uneventful, and it was warm by the end but not terribly hot yet when I finished ~10:30AM. I didn't see any interesting wildlife today, but it was a nice longer outing exploring some new areas. |
