| no partners | | Started out planning to do the Prospectors Loop counter clockwise. When I got to the top I decided to take National to Lost Ranch instead of staying on the loop.
On the way down Lost Ranch there was a hiker a little way ahead of me. I was thinking that I should try to catch up with him so any snakes he scares off the trail won't have time to come back. Right then I noticed a small rattler coiled up right next to the trail. Apparently he was sleeping. There was a steep and overgrown drop off on the other side of the trail so there was no way around him. I hoped that he would stay asleep and ran past. He must be a sound sleeper. Whew!
I eventually caught up with the hiker. He didn't even notice the snake he walked right past. That snake really was a sound sleeper. The rest of the hike was uneventful. A beautiful and not too hot day on the mountain. |
