| no partners | | Not exactly what I intended but couldn't skip the big cloud view opportunity. The sky was pretty gray and ugly after I drove in with a steady wind. I took a short hike to a local bench mark which was a one and done sort of thing but great views from the ridgeline rollercoaster. I had to decide where to car camp; the storm was not going to be a big thing in this area but I decided to camp high with the Jeep nose into the wind and a small cedar tree and huge prickly pear as a windbreak. Rain off and on most of the night. I love the sound on the Jeep top; and I also had some good reading.
Morning broke and I had a choice. The sky was just awesome with all the clouds and sunlight playing amongst the hills and cliffs. Out the road and then to hike on the conglomerate. The slot I sought was technical. I managed to get in the upper part then the bottom fell out. Would be a short initial rap but it was still more than I was equipped for. So I wandered along the rim then made my way up, then over to another small drainage with small pools of run off. I managed to fall four times and tweak my knee once. (My primary care MD will not be pleased. My last report was that I am at moderate risk for hip fracture. I told her I am not stopping hiking). Or on the other hand 4 falls and no ambulatory injury= maybe the hip is better than thought! It was super humid and I was pretty bloodied up. Got to the Jeep, had a cold drink and all is good. The only way I could do this one was because of this storm, otherwise way too hot. |
