| no partners | | Great weather, dry roads, great clouds, temps, feeling good, gear working properly. About 15-20 min of catclaw cactii agave hell but goal made. More questions now for sure. What I was sure was track was the wooden framework for such, the track removed as per the usual. The tred was steep but following the cable got me to the upper site. Tremendous views. Lots of equipment. The overgrowth made for work to see most everything. Large headframe was down and it was challenging to get a photo of the large wheel for the cable. Mult engines. There must have been an upper road; I tried to find it but maybe 15 feet of rock might have been an alignment. The brush was bad and it did not lead to any discovery of a road cut.
Topo had this marked as a shaft but it was an inclined stope. In I went with 3 headlamps and some handline. I made it to 4 levels, and all the levels had track to where it was dumped into some sort of haulage bucket which must have been tremendous given how spaced out the track was. The levels were work with collapses and some huge rooms. Found out my brush pants not only stellar for catclaw but pretty good for crawling over rock. Because the stope was slippery ladders were installed to walk down, sort of a weird way to go. Not incredibly interesting rock but some nice colors and strata. At the fourth level things were a bit more chaotic and while it went on since I do most of my stuff solo I decided I'd had enough. I deployed my handline to cross over so I wouldn't tobaggan down the slope into the darkness.
Outside I looked for burro trails; anything to indicate access to this site. I wasn't finding anything, I think this place was idle for a long long time. I might try from an upper road spur I know of in a sometime future. I was pretty happy with myself today, this was a hardcore hike for me. |
