| no partners | | Not feeling the best and did not get the goal but have a much better idea of the terrain from the canyon. This is another maybe I've been here but there was not a lot of pinging of the memory banks. Car camped before the mining spur road had huge washouts and no sign of traffic past them. Ok on foot. Exploring yielded 4 shafts with timbering; 3.5 tunnels. Lots of beautiful sparkly rock. A downed cabin that looked like it had been built on short stilts. A huge ore handler, my goal was up from it but I struggled on the steep grade pulling myself up by the cable and hanging onto track. When it went almost vertical into brush in a rock face I gave up.
One tunnel had lots of glass bottles ( screw top so modern) and a mass of wire that looked like on close inspection modern det cord. The old stuff you have to be really careful as the charge could go off upon any disturbance.
Another tunnel had several levels with ladders and many inscriptions by carbide lamps of the previous miners. The earliest I found was 1939 which would be slightly earlier than the main mining of this area that was in the 40's. Another tunnel was short and led to a neat small timbered shaft with a skylight above. The last tunnel was a hot mess with black widow spiders and a possibly dead bat still hanging upside down. Did have some nice color.
I was worn out with my apparent sinus issues and a pulled intercostal muscle from redoing my backyard displays. Before it gets too hot would like to try back and make the final push to a remote upper working. |
