| no partners | | | Looking for flowers, nada; stopped by Apache land to get an earful about a road closure. Went to said area and yes there was a road closure. Went on another road then went crosscountry to see if a doable connection to the no longer accessible road. Years ago I drove it to within 30 feet of the Gila but it was pretty rough and not interesting enough for a repeat. Not difficult terrain but not encouraging either. I like hiking here as the desert is kinda interesting and not overwhelming with brush. I did my 4 mile loop and drove out and reported in. I got the input on the "white guy married to an Apache woman and he thinks he is some sort of fake Indian and can close the road". Wonder how long it will last. Found out I have an Apache nickname which is hilariously inappropriate when translated. The elders looked embarrassed but the younger ones when they told me laughed so long I just had to laugh with them. Not a bad day all in all. And no I will not repeat it here, nor the story for the basis of it. |
