| no partners | | Before heading back to Phoenix, we decided to hike the Rim loop since we figured the falls would be flowing after all the rain the previous afternoon. We started at the falls, and they were definitely flowing. We continued on the loop counter-clockwise, through more mud than trail. Water everywhere, which was great to see, but the lack of a dry trail did slow us down. A few miles in, we saw a small AZ Black rattler hiding under a log, but that was pretty much it for the wildlife sightings. I always find the section between KA Hill and Pomeroy Tanks to be the most boring part of the loop, and it was again on Sunday. The abundance of mosquitoes added to the enjoyment too. Once at Pomeroy, it was impossible to get through some spots with dry shoes, so the last mile or so of the hike was crossing back and forth across the creek with no attempt to avoid the water. The entire loop was almost devoid of hikers all day--we only saw one other guy, and a few climbers near the falls. |
