Met up with Denny and Kelly at San Gabriel at 0630. Made our way over to Desert Classic and towards Young Man/Black Rock Canyon. We started Black Rock Canyon on the east side of the wash, which makes more sense than the official start on the west side. Headed uphill, grateful for the shade and breeze. The official trail tops out on the ridge, then drops into Hidden Valley not far from the tunnel—well signed the entire way. After that, we headed down National, then finished the loop on Beverly/Pima Canyon Loop. Good temps and breeze this morning. Nice workout loop, with moatly good footing going this direction. Always fun to hike with Denny and Kelly!

I joined Linda and surprise guest Kelly for a morning hike at South Mountain. Linda showed us the “new” Black Rock Canyon hike. Still a good climb. Followed it down into Hidden Valley where it ends. Made a loop out of it with National, Beverly, Desert Classic, and Guadalupe Perimeter.
Great temps, trail, and company! Thanks Ladies! Like HAZ, you rock!

Met up with Jill at Pima Cyn at 0600 and headed up Marcos De Niza, then up Guadalupe Ridge. Saw the new signs at the top of what used to be Young Man, but is now Black Rock Canyon Trail. It drops into Hidden Valley near the tunnel and is fully signed. We continued past the new signs and entered Hidden Valley near Fat Man’s Pass. Saw @john10s at this point, going the opposite direction.

Jill and I went down Hidden Valley, then stayed in the wash all the way back to the trailhead. Brushy in places. This route avoids the worst of the crowds. Nice morning!

Still a lot of flowers in Hidden Valley and Pima Wash, drying out though.

Cool and breezy mid-morning start. Lots of erosion from the rains, but also a lot of new plant growth and flowers appearing. Early for wildflowers. Should be a good year especially if we get some more rain before the ground dries out. Brittlebush and creosote blooming as well.
Only saw three mountain bikers. Rare since the pandemic.
Good day. :)

Got started from Pima Canyon around 0830. Up Marcos, then up Guadalupe Ridge. Dropped down to Hidden Valley at Fat Man’s Pass, then stayed in the wash down to the dirt road. Recent rain has the vegetation growing like crazy. I need to remember to bring some clippers next time I’m hiking the wash. Finished on the road, which I basically the Walmart of hiking trails, but I ignored the nonsense. Nice weather, but I was hoping for more clouds.

I think Denny flew home around midnight, but I told him he still had to hike with me today. Met up at Pima Cyn at 0715. Up Marcos, then up Mormon Loop/Javelina. Came down thru Hidden Valley, National, and Pima Wash.

Tons of evidence of recent rain, with still some flowing water. Trails are chewed up. Saw two caterpillars. A handful of bikers and other hikers. Good workout, abd always good to hike with Denny.

Joined Linda for a mid morning hike at South Mountain. Flew in last night so I was dragging a little. Wait, that's my normal :D ! Signs of the rain storm were evident. Some ruts here and there and occasional standing water. A little water running in the tunnel and in Lower Pima wash. Linda was able to spot a little "quick sand" and showed me were it was. :D :scared: Pima wash trail had signs of a foot or two flow recently. The pavement work on the drive in and the parking lot seemed to be done. New top and paint.
It was great to get a hike in with Linda and catch up. :y: Like HAZ, she rocks!

Warmer temps are finally hear. Nice spring though. We got going on our hike at 5 AM. A little busy on the trails, mostly mountain bikers. Mellow hike as we are both recovering from senioritis. :)

Took advantage of cloud cover to enjoy a morning jaunt in the desert. Saw a benchmark on the map and went over to look for it. I was a little surprised to find it intact. Headed down Hidden Valley all the way for the first time in a hot minute. Always a pleasure in there.
