Warmer temps are finally hear. Nice spring though. We got going on our hike at 5 AM. A little busy on the trails, mostly mountain bikers. Mellow hike as we are both recovering from senioritis. :)

Took advantage of cloud cover to enjoy a morning jaunt in the desert. Saw a benchmark on the map and went over to look for it. I was a little surprised to find it intact. Headed down Hidden Valley all the way for the first time in a hot minute. Always a pleasure in there.

Another evening hike with HAZ’s most blocked member. Got started from Pima Canyon and promptly got lost in the parking lot as we decided what exactly we wanted to hike. Chumley not only put together a loop that had us blinded by the late afternoon sun, but somehow managed to seemingly feel like it was uphill 90% of the time. Impressive really. I whined accordingly.

We made our way west on Beacon Hill, Ridgeline, and Mormon Loop/Javelina Canyon. Warm, but a strong breeze kept things comfortable. After Mormon, we went through the tunnel end of Hidden Valley, then up past the crosses to Guadalupe Ridge. Three crosses now, large wood ones, two look newer than the third. Temps cooled nicely after the sun set. East on the Ridge, then finished up on Marcos De Niza.

Nice evening. Good workout. And an abundance of topics for us both to find plenty to complain about.

Went counterclockwise and it was awful. Ridgeline and Mormon are awful. Guadalupe and Marcos have tons more uphill than they should. Go the other way.

Removed a couple of painted rocks. Did you know if you wipe "love" into toilet paper with your poop, you can leave it wherever you want? It's not trash if there's a positive message on it!

Got started from Pima Canyon at 1800. Chumley and I hadn’t decided which trails we wanted to do, so we headed up Marcos to decide from there. Warm, but some shade. Abundant whining. Continued up Guadalupe Ridge, then dropped into Hidden Valley at Fat Mans Pass. After Hidden Valley we came down Mormon Loop, then finished on the dirt road. Pleasant enough temps by the finish. Good workout hike, and fun to grab a quick evening hike with Chumley before temps get too warm.

Mercifully not-so-quick night loop starting an hour before sunset on a 92 degree day. Mostly shaded which helped. Even a little breeze later on. Nobody else out there beyond the initial Marcos climb and a single biker on the Pima road. A guy living in his truck in the parking lot seems to be set up for eviction.

Met Kelly at Pima Cyn at 0730. From the trailhead, we took Beacon Hill trail west, then west on Ridgeline. Continued west on Mormon Loop/Javelina/National. Dropped into Hidden Valley and headed back east. Encountered one lost hiker near the dryfall. He followed us for a moment, then managed to get lost again. Hmmm. Stayed in the wash below Hidden Valley, then finished on Pima Wash. Good workout loop. Fun to see Kelly again!

13 years since I hiked the Mormon Trail, seems like I never did it because I can barely remember it. Started about 5:45am in the dark. First 2 hikers I saw were coming downhill with no lamps in total darkness :-s . Saw a few more heading downhill, must have got an early start to finish early.

Got up to the National Trail and took a left into Hidden Valley, bypassed Fat Man's Pass. Some of the slick and polished granite in Hidden Valley made for a bit more hazardous conditions with the damp sand everywhere.

halfway into Hidden Valley I took the rough route up to the Guadalupe Ridge and hiked that over to its junction with the National Trail. I hadn't hiked on Guadalupe Ridge in about 10 years, so I forgot how much bouldering is on this trail/route. It ended up taking more time that I had intended but at least that was out of the way early. The cooler morning weather and dampness also helped.

Took the National over to Corona de Loma and headed down. Along the flat portion of Corona de Loma I was passed by a trail runner with no shirt, no water, and smoking a cigarette :o . One of the odder things I've seen hiking.

headed up Corona de Loma east and quickly got off trail, heading up the canyon when the trail cuts to the south a bit and out of the canyon. There is a faint trail in the canyon, but it was getting fainter the further up I went, so when I caught my mistake I just doubled back. The ascent back up was slow as the sun was heating things up a bit by now. No hikers or bikers along this trail at all.

got back on the National and headed back. Walked back all the way through Hidden Valley, then made a left and got on the Mormon Trail further down. From Hidden valley to the trailhead it was steady traffic, pretty much all hikers.

the lot was full when I got back and the late arrivals were circling like vultures for open spots. Best views were of the mountains to the north newly covered in snow from the storms the night before. Nice workout hike on trails I haven't done in a long time, got nearly 3K' AEG

Two Peaks and Hidden Valley.
Cloudy and windy with a few sprinkles. Hopefully a deluge tomorrow.
Didn't see a soul on Marcos or San Gabriel.
Sun came out the last few minutes of the hike. :)

I had just enough time for a quick hike after dropping Reagan off at school, and John was able to work with my schedule. He swore he had never seen any mines at the east end of SoMo, but I guess things are a blur when you hike at 4mph.

Not too busy as we headed up the road, then up Mormon Loop. Some bikers, who couldn’t decide if they wanted to be ahead of, or behind us. Came down Hidden Valley, then the wash, where I proved that there are indeed some mines. Finished up on the road again. I don’t normally like to hike the road both directions, but that was all time allowed for in this case.

Always a good workout hike.
