Bob and I started our hiking around 8:00am. We hit up East End first then went over to Tom's Thumb. Trails were in good shape. Buckhorn cactus are starting to bloom. Bob ordered up some great temps and a nice breeze! :D Nice hike and workout! Afterwards Bob bought lunch at one of the local restaurants! MmMm! :y:
Thanks for the hike and lunch Bob! It was good to catch up! You know.. Like HAZ, you rock!! :y:

Wally hadn't hiked in the park yet and I had only once. Wally sprang for the 7 dollar fee. We hit the trail a little after 5:30am, I believe. I tied a few trails together and Wally was on board with it. We hiked Desperado trail, North Star trail, Saguaro Loop, Serenity Loop, and Interpretive Trail. We got in a mile or two before the sun hit us with some bonus shade on Saguaro. North Star was short but had the best climb. Trails were in ok shape. Palo Verde and Ironwood were blooming. Only saw 2 cars and 2 people along with a car coming in as we were leaving. Pretty quiet out there today except for the one Diamondback. Wally saw him in time and his rattle worked really well. He was on Serenity loop. Another enjoyable outing with Wally! Like HAZ, he rocks. :y:

Wally and I snuck over to hike DixieFlyer's Trail to Mount Ord. We got busted! :y: Good to see ya Wade! Actually I only had 10 miles in me so we just hiked to the gate and back. :) Wally and I started about 6am. It was 50 degrees out with a breeze! I wore two shirts and it felt nice the whole time. Only got passed by one car going to Little Ord trail. Road was in good shape. We saw Wade a little after we turned around and his car was the only other one in the lot. Good hike, weather, company and always good to see another Hazer!
Thanks Wally! Like HAZ, you and Wade rock! :)

Linda joined me for an early start at South Mountain. We got the first climb out of the way before the sun hit us. Linda showed me my first rattler of the year and it was deceased. ](*,) After that we went down to the rock house and did the Mormon Loop. On the way back we took Pima road to Beverly and over to Desert Classic and back to car for a 6 miler. It was warming up but we were off the mountain by 8:30ish. Trail was in usual shape. Nice to get a south Mountain hike in and catch up with Linda while she is visiting AZ.! :D
You know... Like HAZ, she rocks!! :y:

The sign at the trailhead says Jacob's Crosscut I believe. :-k Wally and I had done the Lost Goldmine trail in 3 sections. 2 out and back and one shuttle. Today we did this one which Lost Goldmine connects to on the west end. We did it as a shuttle from the Trailhead off First water to the Trailhead off Broadway. We were running ahead of our planned start time so we used headlamps for 20 minutes or so. Beating the heat! We wound up getting in 4.5 miles before the sun hit us. I think we only saw 5 people all morning. 1 on trail and 2 and 2 on other trails. It's Dry out there but the Palo Verdes are putting on a show on the second half of this hike. Second half is also rocky but it went pretty well out there today. Of course it's always fun getting a hike in with Wally! Like HAZ, he rocks! :yr: :y:

Maverick, Beckham and I got out for a little hike and playground adventure. It's Spring break! The trailhead with the bathroom is closed so we parked at the south trailhead. The normal lizards and birds then Maverick spotted a good size Chuckwalla. The first one the boys have seen. They were very excited! LOL
After the loop we walked over to the exercise equipment and back to get our mile. Playgrounds followed!
Good times! Thanks boys! Like HAZ, you rock!

I got the new version of the Boots and Burgers Book and this hike was in it. My grandson Isaac and I are going to try and do all the hikes in the book. It is spring break so I took Isaac and his friend to Goldwater Lake to do a little fishing then over to do a little hiking. We parked in the parking lot on the west side of the road. There is a pay kiosk ($5) and clean bathrooms. There is a section that comes under the main road and two other little sections we didn't do. The rest we checked off! Some cool rock formations here and the boys had fun exploring a lot of them. The intersections are marked and I had route scout to compare it to if needed. Cool area we all enjoyed! The burger place suggested ( Brown Bag Burger) is no longer open so we picked one from another hike in the book. A reminder, also when in these smaller towns some restaurants aren't open on Monday's and such when planning your hikes. We decided on Bill's Grill. A small place south of Whiskey Row. Good service, burger, and lemonade from a local! The boys got Cheese steak sandwiches they agreed were delicious! We all had a great day for our first trip planned around our Boots and Burgers adventures! Thanks gentlemen! Like HAZ, you rock!!

Wally and I dropped a car off at Hiero trail around 6:00am. Then we drove over to Jacob's Trailhead off Broadway to start our hike. Wally and I had done the other half of Lost Goldmine in a couple of out and backs recently. We got started a little before 6:30am. No headlamps needed. With the help of the mountain we avoided the sun for the first 2.5 miles, I believe. The trail is rockier than I remember :) . We woke up a couple of Mule Deer a mile in. This area has lots of nice vegetation but then there is the Stinknet! ](*,) We followed the route until we got to the houses and the gate with the private property-no trespassing sign. About 3.3 miles to there. From there we went west until we hit the Hog Canyon road. About .3 miles from closed gate. South from there a short ways then east on Cloudview all the way back to Hiero parking lot. Not sure if the first part of the road is Cloudview or private road and turns into Cloudview. It would be nice if they could just take Lost Goldmine straight east and not south along that fence line. Then connect it to Hiero where the other half connects and skip the houses and streets. For now I guess the Cloudview side is a no go.
On the way back we stopped at Silly Mountain to see if they were putting out the Leprechaun's for kids to find this year on the Nature trail. As of now, they have not. Grandson won't be happy. LOL

I hit the trail around 7:00am. I took Lost Sheep to Chain Fruit to Talon to Pass Mountain Loop intersection. I turned around there and took the same trails back to the car. Nice overcast morning. I got serenaded by a pack of Coyotes in the first half mile! 8) Another cool moment was standing between two Saguaros topped with Harris Hawks while they squawked at each other! Hawks in stereo! :D Nice morning to be out! :y:

Wally and I did some kind of variation of this hike. We hit the trail around 6:30am with a temp of 37! :o
A nice morning to be in the Supes. The hike in didn't look as green as I thought it would. The route out did. :) Hackberry Spring had no bees! A far cry from last time here. It did have a few fish and a possible frog jumped. Water looked ok to filter. We only saw one hiker with a couple of rescue dogs. friendly guy and dogs seemed well behaved. My ankle didn't like the creek walking so we stayed on trail going out. :(
A nice little leg stretcher with good weather and company! Thanks to Wally for getting up early for a shorter hike! Like HAZ, he rocks!! :y:

I joined Linda and surprise guest Kelly for a morning hike at South Mountain. Linda showed us the “new” Black Rock Canyon hike. Still a good climb. Followed it down into Hidden Valley where it ends. Made a loop out of it with National, Beverly, Desert Classic, and Guadalupe Perimeter.
Great temps, trail, and company! Thanks Ladies! Like HAZ, you rock!

Hit Linda up for a 5-6 miler at South Mountain. Turned out to be 6-7 so the grandkids will be happy! 😂
I hadn’t been to the Oasis yet so that fit the bill. Nice work out and cool little area. Started early to beat the heat but I think I still sweated out a couple pounds!
Thanks for the hike and early start, my friend! Like HAZ, you rock!

Wally and I did 3 miles out and back from Cloudview east last month. This time we did 3 miles out and back from Lost Goldmine Trail (east end). We went west to were we turned around last time from Cloudview. We hit the trail around 6:15 with headlamps. only car in lot. Temps were not bad and partial clouds were nice. Trail was in the normal shape. a little rocky here and there. Nice vegetation except for the Stinknet! We saw one headlamp up by Wave Cave. Didn't see any hikers until half way back. One group of 5 or 6. We finished up before 9 and the heat. Enjoyable outing with nice weather and company! Thanks Wally! Like HAZ, you rock!

I did another ankle rehab hike along with a surprise guest. My daughter Erica! :o :y: With a late start (9:30ish) we decided to park at the C&D parking and go clockwise. We just planned on doing a few miles out and back. I figured this is the smoothest section of the Loop and JJ said there were Poppies spotted in the area(thanks). Sure enough we got to do some rehab, hike the smoother section, avoid the rockiest section, and see a nice amount of Poppies and a few Lupine! Started this late we saw the most hikers I've seen on this one in awhile! one group had 20 hikers in it! :o :D Temps were ok and we made it without a fall! :y: :app:
Afterwards we grabbed a bite at the HUB with a surprise guest there too! LiLD! :y:
A very enjoyable outing indeed! Thanks you two! Like HAZ, you rock!

I picked Wally up around 6:30 and we hit the trail around 7:00am. There were 3 cars or so in the lot already. I'm nursing a sore ankle so we were just gonna play the mileage by my whining! We turned around at about the 3 mile mark. We saw 2 hikers on the way out and under a dozen on the way back. The trail was in pretty good shape and the weather was great as was the company! Thanks for the hike Wally. It was good to catch up! You know, like HAZ, you rock! :D :y:
