Linda let me join her for a South Mountain loopish hike. Starting half hour before sunrise so no headlamp needed. The plan was to park at San Gabriel and go Desert Classic-Beverly-Javelina-Mormon-National- Hidden Valley- down to start of National- San Gabriel to car. A little warm at the end but it went pretty good. All the power line reroutes on Beverly now say Pima Canyon loop with the one on the northern section called a Beverly connector trail. A little confusing with this one. Like when they rerouted Warrior and put up signs that said T-Bone loop only to change the name again. Not sure everyone is on the same page. The hike went good. It Seemed we moved over for more bikes than normal. One horse up ahead left us a nice present on the trail. I think she should have bagged it for the poop fairy to haul out! 😳😂 Linda pointed out a Coyote on Mormon which didn’t like wasting energy going around us. Really like going down the wash after hidden valley. With little rain I was worried about the big Bursera but it actually looked pretty good. 👏👏The last climb by the CCC building’s was a little warm but we survived. The San Gabriel reroute has begun. I sweated out a few pounds but it was an enjoyable hike. Always enjoy chitchatting with Linda! Like HAZ she rocks!

Wally gets a kick out of seeing me cry so he took me on this hike. Dutchman/ Coffee Flat(black) intersection and surrounding area is toast. Thousands of Saguaro will fall! 😭 Some green Catclaw.🤦‍♂️ Hiked to the windmill and back.To my surprise there were some sections with healthy stands of Ocotillo farther out on Coffee Flat and a couple Saguaro. Good hike and company but the burn 😭😭Thanks Wally. Like haz, you rock!

With the nice weather and a little extra time Linda suggested a couple different hikes. I picked the easier one. 😁 This is a nice loop. The up is gradual, the trail in great shape, nice views, great vegetation. Throw in a pleasant pace and some fun conversation and it makes for a great outing! Thanks for another great hike Linda. Like Haz, you rock. 😁

Another nice early morning hike in the Supes with Wally. We went to check out the fire damage. Wally included a ruin with grinding hole, hackberry spring, First water ranch, and a Tortoise! :y: The burn is sad! You could see where they protected the ranch. The spring area wasn’t burnt either. You had some areas where the grass wasn’t burnt in Garden Valley and right around it was torched . It seems some of the Saguaro will be ok but not so sure about the barrels. Even saw some Prickly Pears with fruit. The hike itself was good. Wally had us 3/4 done before the sunlight hit us! Nice route and hike . Thanks Wally! Like Haz, you rock!

Linda suggested a hike with Los Lomitas included so I was in. I didn’t have a Goat Hill in me today so I nixed that from the get go. When it gets hot I’m not known to make the right call so I called it beforehand. 😂 We got started around 5am. Linda set a comfortable pace and added a variety of topics for an entertaining conversation and enjoyable hike. Los Lomitas section of trail being the highlight with a coyote serenade the whole way. The clouds/smoke kept the sun at bay and it was tolerable for the 7 miles. Always nice to get an early South Mountain hike in. Thanks for the hike Linda! Like HAZ, you rock!

I met Wally at the Hieroglyphics trailhead around 530. Temps weren’t too bad but the humidity was no bueno. We hadn’t been on Turks before. The off trail had a lot less scratchy stuff then when we did the hike to “Wally’s hammer” a couple weeks ago. You could see the hammer from up top too and it looked so small. The climb had pretty good footing but the big rock face might be a little slippery when wet. Wally took us through the secret passage. Go left and the summit is right there. Go right and there is no bottom. Great views! We did see a little smoke that looked to be on the northeast side of the ridgeline. On the way back Wally pointed out lots of other stuff we could check out at another time. 😳😁 One hill before we finished we saw a guy with a thirsty dog and tossed him a bottle of cold water. 😁 Another nice hike in the Supes and NO bloodshed 😱. Thanks Wally, like Haz, you rock!

Linda let me join her for what must be our “50th” :y: time sharing the trail. Per usual I was complaining about a sore knee so she let me pick the route so it would be on me. 😳😁 Three ups but I figured better than a steep one for my knee. I did sweat out 4lbs though. 🥵 I always like it when we can be on trail for the sunrise! I like this route to Hidden Valley better than the Pima route. Nice to get a morning hike in with some good conversation and company! Thanks Linda, like Haz, you rock!

I met Wally at the Hieroglyphics trailhead. It’s been too long! Starting hiking around 5am. Wally took me out the Lost Goldmine trail and then off trail to the Mushroom rock. Cool rock. A little scratchy in shorts but that’s on me. 😁. Lots more to explore in the area. I had a reminder that it’s good to hike with someone when off trail. A good size rock rolled and if it pinned me I would have been stuck for sure. We saw a few quail, 5 mountain bikers, and no hikers.A tad warm at the end but still and enjoyable outing. Thanks for letting me join you Wally! Like Haz, you rock!

I got to join Linda for another Wednesday hike. Headed out around 5am. The air sure felt thick and not even a hint of a breeze until we almost topped out. The uphill thing was a workout! 😁 After that , we kinda got our second wind and enjoyed the rest of the hike! Thanks for the hike Linda. Like HAZ, you rock!

I have only been “hiking “ the canal for a couple weeks and haven’t hiked with Linda in a few so this was a win/win! She even took me on a couple South Mountain trails I hadn’t been on. We started early and Linda let me set the pace. 👍 We got most of the up out of the way before the sun hit us and the slower pace was much appreciated! Thanks for the hike Linda, you rock!

I really wanted to do this hike with Bruce and Joe. I thought I was in shape for it. I was not. Really steep going up. Switchbacks are a love hate thing but I could have used a few on this one. I liked the summit layout and it had some nice views. Going down into the Aspen grove was nice. Wasn’t expecting such a big stand of Aspen. There were even a couple trees that looked like a bear had been sharpening up on them. Not much fun for me after that section. Over and around 100’s of down trees then hiking sideways on the steep slopes kicked my 🎃 ! The boys let me bail to a road and I took a long break before walking the half mile down to a dirt road intersection where the boys picked me up. Rough day but glad I got to get the summit in with these two. Thanks so much gentlemen. Like Haz, you rock!!

Met Linda at 5am to do this little South Mountain Loop. Temps weren’t horrible. Except for the waking up early😳 I love these early starts🤪.Always enjoy Hidden Valley and taking the wash down. The humongous Bursera tree looked really thirsty! Nice hike, company, and conversation. Thanks Linda, like Haz, you rock!

A Forest closure I hadn’t heard about had me throwing a Tortoise Tantrum. Luckily Joe loves to hike early. We realized it didn’t go into effect until 8am and it was only 545. Yeah! Just enough time to do the first hike. Nice little loop I’m sure the locals like. From there it was on to Dogtown to do the other three. Ponderosa is a nice little nature walk for kids. Davenport was a nice 5 miler. Probably 70% shade or so. Lots of Pine, oak, and grasshoppers. We saw 3 Elk and two groups of 4hikers the whole hike. Nice hike. Last we hiked around Dogtown Lake. Lots of people out fishing and such. To windy! Lots of fond memories of this lake fishing and camping. Nice mixture of trails today and top notch company. Like Haz, Joe rocks!!
